Columbia Records oraz Legacy Recordings zapowiadają album Boba Dylana „Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985)”.
Jest to kolejny rozdział w znanej serii bootlegów, przedstawiający 54 wcześniej niepublikowane nagrania, w tym fragmenty albumów „Shot of Love”, „Infidels” oraz „Empire Burlesque”. Już 17 września album ukaże się jako 2 CD, 5 CD oraz 2 LP. Najnowsza część cieszącej się uznaniem serii bootlegów Boba Dylana powraca do zapomnianego, a jakże bogatego katalogu artysty, nagranego w latach 1980-1985. We wczesnych latach osiemdziesiątych, gdy przemysł muzyczny zmagał się z pojawieniem nowych trendów i technologii – od MTV, po płyty kompaktowe i nagrania cyfrowe, Bob Dylan pisał i nagrywał nowe piosenki, tworząc istotny rozdział w swoim studyjnym katalogu. „Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985)” to bogaty okres twórczy związany z albumami „Shot of Love”, „Infidels” oraz „Empire Burlesque” z wcześniej niepublikowanymi utworami, alternatywnymi ujęciami, nagraniami z prób oraz występami live.
Wersja deluxe albumu „Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985)” zawiera 57 nagrań Boba Dylana, z czego 54 z nich nie były wcześniej publikowane w żadnym formacie. Na albumie znalazły się dwa fragmenty „Shot of Love”: „Let It Be Me” – wydany jako B-side do singla „Heart of Mine” oraz „Don’t Ever Take Yourself Away” – oryginalnie wydany na ścieżce dźwiękowej „Hawaii Five-O: Original Songs from the Television Series”. Trzeci wydany wcześniej utwór to „Death Is Not The End”, który został opublikowany w krótszym wydaniu na „Down In The Groove”. Teraz po raz pierwszy ukaże się w pełnej wersji. Pięciopłytowe wydawnictwo zawiera dodatkowo 100-stronicową książeczkę w twardej oprawie oraz zdjęcia artysty.
Pierwsza płyta „Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16” została nagrana w 1980 i 1981 roku. Ukazuje Boba Dylana ćwiczącego różne wersje utworów ze swojego katalogu, próbując przy tym przearanżować niektóre z nich. W tych latach powstało również kilka coverów, jak „Mystery Train”, „Sweet Caroline” czy „Fever”. W ich nagraniu wzięli udział Fred Tackett na gitarze, Davis Mansfield na mandolinie, Willie Smith na klawiszach, Mick Taylor na basie i Jim Keltner na perkusji. Za chórki odpowiedzialni byli Clydie King, Carolyn Dennis, Gwen Evans oraz Regina McCrary.
Druga płyta z kolei to zbiór niepublikowanych utworów oraz alternatywnych wersji z wyprodukowanego przez Chucka Plotkina albumu „Shot of Love”. Krążki numer trzy i cztery skupiają materiał, który powstał na album „Infidels”, przy tworzeniu którego wzięli udział Mark Knopfler (na gitarze), Mick Taylor (również na gitarze), Alan Clark (na klawiszach), Robbie Shakespeare (na basie) oraz Sly Dunbar (na perkusji). Utwory z sesji nagraniowej do płyty „Infidels” zostały wyprodukowane przez samego Boba Dylana oraz Marka Knopflera. W ich skład wchodzą niewydane wcześniej wersje „Blind Willie McTell” oraz „Jokerman”.
Płyta nr 5 zawiera utwory w wersji live, takie jak: „Enough is Enough” z koncertu w Slane Castle w Irlandii czy „License to Kill” nagrane podczas występu w programie Davida Lettermana w 1984 roku. Reszta piosenek to alternatywne wersje i fragmenty sesji nagraniowej do „Empire Burlesque”, w tym premierowe kompozycje: „Straight A’s in Love”, „New Danville Girl” oraz wczesna wersja „Brownsville Girl”.
